In his first big speech of 2023, Sir Keir Starmer did not just park his tanks on Rishi Sunak’s lawn, but set up barracks and moved most of his regiment into the Tories’ Brexit territory, writes RichardVaughan1 🔎 Analysis:
in an attempt to steal a march on his opposite number, the Labour leader stole the catchphrase that was the bedrock of the Tories’ 2019 general election success.
As policies go, greater devolution of power is by no means a vote winner, but the sentiment behind the policy to hand more control to local people will turn heads. It is undoubtedly a shameless policy move, pinching the very phrase of the Vote Leave campaign that Sir Keir was so vehemently opposed to as a Remainer, but it also shows canny politics.
