Kanye West's presidential bid was serious—but not so serious he actually met the deadlines to get his name listed on voters’ ballots
was a genuine effort to build campaign infrastructure and enough momentum to make the July 15 deadline to appear on Florida’s ballot.
West reportedly offered the source, who is a political operative with experience in this type of work, $5,000 to go to Florida and help collect the 132,781 valid voter signatures he would need in order to appear on the state’s ballot in under a week.
Kramer said that “We had overwhelming support to get him on the ballot. Whether anybody is going to vote for him or not is up to them,” adding, “They got a lot of people who they’ve got both on their volunteer side and their contracted side.” When the story’s author reached back out to Kramer, however, it appears that the rapper’s campaign had finally run its course.
“He’s out,” Kramer told him. “I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Everyone has their personal decision about why they make decisions. Running for president has to be one of the hardest things for someone to actually contemplate at that level. Any candidate running for president for the first time goes through these hiccups.”
