Andrew Hall, 58, denies the murder of Geoffrey Ives. A new trial date has been set
A jury has been discharged in the trial of a man accused of murdering 75-year-old Geoffrey Ives. Andrew Hall, 58, is charged with murder, an alternate offence of manslaughter and a separate offence of aggravated burglary.
Prosecutors allege that he stabbed Mr Ives to death. Mr Ives was sadly found days later ‘slumped’ in front of the sofa in his flat in Heywood, a court previously heard. Jurors were told that Mr Hall then got a taxi to Middleton where he is accused of ‘smashing’ the conservatory doors of his ex-partner, before threatening to kill her five children who were in the house at the time. He was wrestled to the ground by her 22-year-old son, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.READ MORE: Woman, 25, killed in horror crash as man arrested
Greater Manchester Police previously said that they were called to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on Hardfield Street, Heywood, on January 29 2023. Mr Hall, of Crown Road, Heywood, who was remanded in custody, denies murder, manslaughter and aggravated burglary. The trial has been refixed for May 7, 2024.
