OAKLAND — Former Ghost Ship warehouse master tenant Derick Almena appeared in an Oakland courtroom on Friday morning, where a judge delayed a decision on whether to revoke the 52-year-old’s probation for allegedly possessing weapons in his Ukiah home.

On Friday, Serra argued the arrows did not have sharpened tips and that it is not unusual for someone living in the woods to possess them. He called the machete a “gardening tool” and added that while Almena was in possession of a single round, no guns were in the home. Almena appeared in court Friday along with his wife, Micah Allison. The couple recently moved to Ukiah in Mendocino County from Lake County, which triggered a visit from county probation officials who found the weapons inside the home, according to court records.

The exact cause of the fire was never determined, although investigators said it was electrical in nature. Power to the warehouse was fed through an extension cord that ran through a hole in the wall to a neighboring business. Almena lived on the second floor, which doubled as an illegal events space, with his wife and three children. They were not home on the night of the deadly fire.
