OAKLAND, Calif. — Jose Altuve will be the American League's starting second baseman at the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Altuve and teammates watched the All-Star starter reveal show on a television in the visitors clubhouse at the Coliseum in Oakland, where the Astros began a three-game series against the A’s on Friday. When the results were announced, Altuve received a high five from slugger Yordan Alvarez, who was seated across the table from him, as well as congratulatory hugs from pitcher Jake Odorizzi and bench coach Joe Espada.
Entering Friday, Altuve led all AL second basemen in home runs , on-base percentage , slugging percentage and OPS . Additionally, he has hit seven leadoff homers this season with 17 total home runs. In the voting for the AL’s All-Star starter at designated hitter, Alvarez was narrowly beat out by Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Alvarez won 48 percent of votes while Ohtani won 52 percent.
