The retailer's eagerly anticipated advert is here - but some shoppers have mixed feeling about the story which features a Venus fly trap.
John Lewis' eagerly anticipated Christmas advert has officially been unveiled - and some shoppers have had a bit of a mixed response.
The department store's advert usually features a different theme every year, with this year's ad telling the story of a young boy, Alfie, who purchases a "Grow Your Own Christmas Tree" from a car boot sale he visited with his gran. A John Lewis spokesperson said: "Our campaign is an original story based on a family forging its own Christmas traditions. Our central character was inspired by the realisation that Venus flytraps are strangely Christmassy in red and green colours. We fell in love with the idea of a Venus flytrap as the perfect Christmas tree, and the idea built from there."
The advert is set to world-renowned opera legend Andrea Bocelli performing the Le Feste Antonacci produced "Festa", which means celebration, The song is set to be released in a longer form, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale going towards John Lewis Partnership’s Building Happier Futures charities, which help care experienced young people and families in need.
