One note about those USB dongles — they are USB-A plugs. You might call USB-A a traditional USB port. What if you want to use it on a laptop that only has USB-C ports? You’ll need a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Some RF mice come with a USB-C adapter, but you may need to provide your own. Also, the adapter will cause the USB dongle to stick out of the computer by an extra third of an inch, which means you might need to remove it before you toss your laptop in a bag for travel.
Bluetooth mice require that your computer have Bluetooth. All laptops these days have Bluetooth built in, but not all desktops have it, so check yours before you buy. If your desktop does not have Bluetooth, you can add it with a USB adapter for less than $20. To connect, you’ll have to open your computer’s Bluetooth control panel and add the mouse. You’ll need to make sure the mouse’s battery is installed and the power switch is on.In the Bluetooth control panel, you’ll see a button to add a device. It will have a + sign. You’ll then watch as the computer scans for new devices in pairing mode and you’ll have to select the mouse when it appears in the list.As for which is better? That’s a toss-up.
Bluetooth mice need to be paired, which does require a bit more technical knowledge than just plugging in a USB dongle like an RF mouse. Also, if for any reason the Bluetooth connection is lost , you’ll need to realize what’s going on and re-pair the mouse to the computer. If you want to set it and forget it, buy an RF mouse. You can also choose an RF mouse and keyboard that both use the same dongle.
