UPDATE: The JimFire started around 11:20am in the Holy Jim trail area and is approximately 400 acres 0% contained. MORE HERE:
“Right now we are looking at about 60 acres on this fire,” Nathan Judy, a public information officer for the Cleveland National Forest told CBSLA Wednesday. “There are communication towers on top of the hill. The fire is going up near them.”
Eight engine crews and two hand crews deployed to the location and encountered flames in thick vegetation, according to the USFS. Two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters were called in to make runs on the brusher.“We had some snow last week so there is moisture in those hills,” said Judy.
Residents of Orange County the smoke column you see is from a brush fire in the Cleveland National Forest. The fire is not a threat to Orange County. This is a good reminder for everyone to do their part and help prevent brush fires.Federal firefighters were also receiving assistance from Orange County Fire Authority personnel. However, no Riverside County crews were immediately summoned to the area.
The Cleveland National Forest said a prescribed fire scheduled for today off Long Canyon Road has been canceled.
