CANCÚN, México (AP) — Jessica Pegula mejoró a 48-0 en 2023 cuando gana el primer set, llevándose 10 de los últimos 12 juegos para vencer a Elena Rybakina por 7-5 y 6-2 en el primer juego de la ronda de round-robin en singles de las finales de la WTA el domingo en una noche de mucha brisa.
Ninguna de ellas había ganado un partido previamente en el campeonato de final de temporada del circuito de tenis femenino. Pegula tuvo marca de 0-3 en Fort Worth, Texas, hace un año, mientras que Rybakina debuta en el evento para las ocho mejores jugadoras en el mundo.
