Jerrod Carmichael brought back the GoldenGlobes with a vengeance in his opening monologue.
. And Carmichael came out guns blazing, roasting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its shameful past in his biting opening monologue: “One minute you’re making mint tea at home, the next you’re invited to be the Black face of an embattled white organization.”
Carmichael took his time with the opening monologue, beginning his speech by instructing the audience to “be a little quiet here” before launching into an extended explanation as to how he got onto the stage. The short version, as he said: “I'm here because I'm Black.” He detailed his apprehension about taking the gig to the audience, sitting on the lip and the stage and recalling how he was sitting at home making tea when he got the call fromto host the Golden Globes.
