Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has died aged 78, his representative has confirmed.
The celebrated musician, who played with the Yardbirds and led the Jeff Beck Group, died on Tuesday after ‘suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis’.Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. According to the NHS website, it can cause life-threatening blood poisoning and result in permanent damage to the brain or nerves.
Beck shot to fame with the Yardbirds and after fronted the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. Over the course of his career, he achieved critical acclaim, receiving the Grammy Award for best rock instrumental performance six times and best pop instrumental performance once.He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, and again as a solo artist in 2009.
