Jamie Carragher believes Roberto De Zerbi is now the 'favourite' to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
Jamie Carragher believes Roberto De Zerbi could be Jurgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool - with the Reds' newly-appointed sporting director Richard Hughes a long-time admirer of the Italian.
However, after Alonso announced his intention to stay with the recently-crowned Bundesliga champions for next season at least and on Monday afternoon it was reported that Ruben Amorim is 'unlikely' to be Liverpool's preferred choice to succeed Klopp, the Italian's name has entered the conversation once more.
Posting to X on Monday, Carragher wrote: "Richard Hughes wanted De Zerbi at Bournemouth, so he must be the favourite if this is true. Ornstein doesn’t get much wrong tbf!" “I have another two years on my contract,” said De Zerbi after Brighton's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on March 31. “To work next season at Brighton, I don’t need to extend. At the moment, we finished the discussion about contracts but not because I have decided yet to leave.
