Director James Gunn celebrates the 17th anniversary of his directorial debut in a 2006 comedy-horror movie by tweeting a nostalgic post.
Director James Gunn celebrated the anniversary of his directorial debut, the 2006 horror-comedy movie Slither, with a nostalgic social media post. Gunn began his career as a screenwriter on a variety of films, such as Scooby-Doo and Dawn Of The Dead, before he began directing in 2006. After Slither, Gunn moved to more comedy and superhero-centric films, including the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
In a post on Twitter, Gunn shared that March 31 marked the theatrical anniversary of his first feature film as a director, Slither, which has become a cult classic over the years. Check out the tweet below: SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In the tweet, Gunn was nostalgic about working with the film cast, which included Nathan Fillion, Gregg Henry, Michael Rooker, and Elizabeth Banks. The set photo Gunn included in the tweet features Banks as Starla Grant and Rooker as her husband and the first man infected by the parasite, Grant Grant.
That example speaks to Gunn's appreciation and respect for actors and his strong collaborative abilities with the people he casts in his projects. Gunn builds a strong rapport with the people he casts in his films, which is why he has many long-standing and fruitful relationships with various actors. Rooker and Fillion appeared in every Gunn-directed movie, which speaks to the chemistry the director has been able to foster with his talent.
Though Gunn's roots stem from the horror and comedy genres, he has now firmly entrenched himself as one of the leaders in the superhero genre at this point. The director is one of a select number of filmmakers who have been allowed to have their feet in both the MCU and DC Studios, for whom he is now the co-chairman and co-CEO. James Gunn also directed The Suicide Squad for DC and will be helming the upcoming Superman: Legacy film for them as well.
