for this season with his arm and his legs. In the last couple of weeks especially, it’s Hurts’ running ability that has come unleashed, and it’s brought the Eagles extra offensive success.
So far, he’s been very successful in doing so with a completion rate of more than 67%, a career-high 17 touchdowns, and a career-low three interceptions to this point. Philadelphia’s increased trust in Hurts as a passer showed up on the stats sheet in the Eagles’ first nine games. The quarterback averaged nearly 30 pass attempts per game to a still-notable 10.4 rush attempts in the first 10 weeks of the season, and far more of his production in terms of yardage and scoring was as a passer.
In Week 11’s matchup with the Colts, the quarterback had his fourth-best day as a rusher in his career with 16 rushes for 86 yards . In Week 12, he completely outdid himself, setting a new career high when he gashed the Packers for 157 rushing yards on 17 attempts , four more yards than he had as a passer on Sunday night.
Philadelphia’s opponents are starting to find out why the team has been such an offensive juggernaut this season. Even if they’re able to limit the Eagles’ rushing attack, Hurts is still a threat in the air. If they shift their focus to stopping Hurts as a passer, it can open up more opportunities for Hurts to take off as a rusher, which in turn opens up more opportunities for Sanders and the other running backs.
