Sancho made a return to action for Man United in a pre-season friendly against Rangers after Erik ten Hag revealed he had 'drawn a line' under their disagreement
It is telling that Jadon Sancho has not remotely acknowledged his reintegration back into the Manchester United fold.
The last post on Sancho’s account is dated June 3, reflecting on the loan spell at Dortmund. That is pinned to his Instagram and X accounts. The silence speaks volumes. Wisely, United omitted Sancho from their gallery of smiling players and staff departing Carrington for Manchester Airport on Wednesday afternoon. Sancho reflected on “past issues” in his summit with Erik ten Hag two weeks ago and he still feels a part of the past at United, despite his present status.
PSG seemed an obvious fit for Marcus Rashford but there has been little headway on that front. Ten Hag has tried to smooth things over with a player he disciplined twice last season, starting Rashford in the FA Cup final and privately telling him Gareth Southgate was “crazy” to omit him from the England squad. Rashford was then perplexed when Ten Hag said on Dutch television during the European Championship that Rashford was “lacking” last season.
Southgate cottoned on quickly when he denied Sancho playing time at the Euros in 2021 due to his training form. England staff were also unimpressed by Sancho’s repeated refusal to do media activities and he has been in exile from the national team squad since September 2021. Predictably, Ten Hag opted for Rashford in the opening two games and as soon as a striker was fit, he selected Anthony Martial against Nottingham Forest in the third fixture. That was the last time Sancho was in a competitive United squad.
