While there are many differences between Netflix’s One Piece season 1 and the manga, the chore of the story is kept. For example, the backstories of the Straw Hat pirates remained mostly unaltered. By keeping the essence of Luffy and the other One Piece characters, Netflix’s One Piece set the stage for an almost perfect live-action adaptation. The world of One Piece is extremely rich, but nailing Luffy and the Straw Hats was arguably more important than any piece of worldbuilding.
One Piece season 1 fixes the mistakes made by almost every other Hollywood anime adaptation. With a diverse cast and a story that matches the original manga, the live-action One Piece series is now the benchmark for what anime adaptions should be. The changes made to the One Piece manga for the live-action show were minimal, and they were mostly tied to pacing.
