More than 10,000 people respond to an Israeli woman’s Facebook plea to help overworked health-care workers in the country’s battle against the coronavirus. Volunteers are going grocery shopping, delivering meals, babysitting and even walking pets.

In this Monday, April 6, 2020 photo, volunteer Einat Kedem, left, speaks with emergency room doctor Maayan Bacher, after delivering her a home-cooked meal, in the Israeli city of Raanana. More than 10,000 people have responded to Israeli Adi Karmon Scope’s Facebook plea to help overworked health-care professionals on the frontline of the country’s battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

In Israel, more than 10,000 people have contracted the coronavirus and 92 have died. The government has imposed severe restrictions on movement to try to quell the rapid spread, including a near-closure on especially vulnerable neighborhoods. “We’ve seen all the medical teams in Italy and in China and we kind of wanted to make sure that our medical teams are taken care of, all their personal lives are taken care of so they can really focus only on being professional and at their best in the hospitals,” said Karmon Scope.
