The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt has opened to allow injured people to leave the enclave for the first time since the war began more than three weeks ago, according to Egyptian media.

Reports have suggested a group of injured evacuees from Gaza have entered Egypt in ambulances via the Rafah border crossing this morning. It would mark the first time people have been able to leave the besieged enclave through the crossing since the conflict between Hamas and Israel began three weeks ago. Our correspondent Cordelia Lynch is in Jerusalem and said local media are reporting around 400 to 500 people could try to make it over.

' Earlier today, the Palestinian border authority said 81 seriously injured Gazans would be allowed to enter Egypt to complete hospital treatment. 'What we can see from the images that are being shared are ambulances on both sides of the border,' Lynch said. 'There have been a lot of injuries from within Gaza, a lot of the elderly and the young who are in desperate need of medical attention.
