UN secretary general Antonio Guterres has condemned Hamas's attacks after a diplomatic row broke out over his comments about the Israeli retaliation.Jerusalem's representative Gilad Erdan accused Mr Guterres of 'tolerating terrorism' and called for him to resign, after the UN chief warned Hamas's invasion didn't 'happen in a vacuum'.
Mr Guterres also said Israel had shown 'clear breaches of international humanitarian law' in its bombardment of Gaza.Posting to social media site X early this morning, he said the 'grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the horrific attacks by Hamas'.He also said the massacres 'cannot justify the collective punishment' of civilians in Gaza.
