The World Health Organisation says it has lost contact with Gaza's al Shifa hospital, where Palestinian officials say babies have died after fuel ran out. Meanwhile, Israel Defence Forces say fighter jets have struck 'Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure and military posts' in Lebanon'.
Israel's prime minister has appeared to set a condition for a ceasefire to be considered - Hamas must release all hostages.Benjamin Netanyahu rejected growing international calls for a ceasefire, saying Israel's battle to crush Hamas militants will continue with 'full force'.Such an agreement would only be possible if all 239 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza are released, he said in a televised address.
Asked what he meant by security control, Mr Netanyahu said Israeli forces must be able to enter Gaza when necessary to hunt down militants. He also rejected the idea that the Palestinian Authority, which administers autonomous areas in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, would at some stage control Gaza. Both positions run counter to post-war scenarios floated by Israel's closest ally, the United States.
