Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich discusses the team's tie with the Houston Texans.HOUSTON — A Herculean comeback in an ugly season opener came up short in a tie when Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 42-yard field goal in overtime that would have won the game.
Yannick Ngakoue, the hired gun Indianapolis acquired in a trade this offseason, opened his 2022 campaign with one of the toughest assignments in the NFL in Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil. With Ngakoue neutralized, Indianapolis struggled to put much pressure on young Houston quarterback Davis Mills for three and a half quarters.
First, it was linebacker E.J. Speed on the blitz, bending around the edge and crushing Mills for a strip sack that Buckner recovered, setting up a key touchdown. Until the Colts were in do-or-die mode late, Indianapolis got precious little out of the rest of its weapons. While the rest of the offense scuffled and struggled, Pittman Jr. kept making plays, kept getting open and hauling in passes from Ryan, finishing with nine catches for 121 yards.
