Through the seaside, the circus, magic shops, dancehalls, the illuminations and stage shows, all things Blackpool are celebrated at Showtown

It’s safe to say that Blackpool can often divide opinion. But whether you like it or not, it’s beyond impossible to look past the impact the area has had on the entertainment, tourism and culture that exists in this country today.

Using screens and a clip editor, you can animate a picture with lights and effects before seeing it beamed onto a virtual Golden Mile on a huge screen. It’s effectively brilliant.

The museum, which spans more than 1000 sq m, has been nine years in the making. Having initially been planned for the The Pavilion Theatre inside Winter Gardens, the decision to develop the Grade II*-listed building was considered too much of a challenge for the council. Lady Dodd said: “Ken performed in Blackpool throughout his working life from 1953 to 2017. From 1962, Ken topped the bill and held the record for six seasons at the Blackpool Opera House with sell out shows, twice nightly. Over several years he performed in numerous Sunday concerts in the Blackpool Grand Theatre during 'the lights'.

One of the museum’s biggest selling factors will be the fact that visitors can return again to Showtown anytime they like for the 12 months after first purchasing their ticket. It means people can pop in for an hour and take in the exhibits, and then come back another time to enjoy another part of the museum. With plenty to explore, as well as future events in the works alongside rotating exhibits, it’s a good offering.
