The Indianapolis Public Library announced that its board of trustees has chosen Gabriel Morley, a library director from New Orleans, as its new CEO.

, pointing also to anti-racism education work by the library.

This year, library employees received a 5% to 7% pay raise, including additional pay for long-term employees, and a minimum wage raise up to $15 an hour.Among Torres’ concerns were Morley’s apparent lack of familiarity with Indianapolis and his relatively short stints at his previous library systems — under two years in New Orleans and almost four years in Atlanta — that community members fear may indicate he may not be here for the long-term.

Community members also criticized Morley’s handling of a question about how to approach homeless library patrons during public presentations by the two CEO candidates last Wednesday. “From the get-go, there was very little communication with staff except for one general meeting where he demonstrated complete and utter lack of knowledge about backend library systems or library operations programming.”
