Denver Auditor Timothy O’Brien held on to his seat during Tuesday’s municipal election, fending off a challenge from political newcomer Erik Clarke, unofficial results showed.The race’s results, updated at 5 p.m. Wednesday by the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Office showed O’Brien holding 59.13% support to Clarke’s 40.87%. The results are unofficial and will change as more ballots are counted. Clarke conceded the race to O’Brien Wednesday afternoon.
O’Brien’s campaign website boasts that he has more than 40 years of experience and finished more than 1,000 audits as the city’s auditor and for the state. At the same time, Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul López will hold on to his seat for a second term. López, who has worked to boost his office’s transparency and increase voter turnout during his first term, ran unopposed for the seat and enjoys 100% support with 127,763 votes cast in his favor.
