The Giants had a 13-year, $350 million deal in place with Correa, but it never became official. A news conference to introduce the former Astros star as the new face of the Giants on Tuesdaythree hours before it was to begin. When the Giants called Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, to tell him the event was canceled over issues with Correa’s physical a day before, Boras said they wanted to continue to discuss a deal.
The Giants’ deal with Correa was so close to being completed that Boras had raved to the Chronicle about owner Greg Johnson’s involvement in helping to get the deal done. The Giants would have had full information about that 2014 ankle surgery from the very start of their talks with Correa.Correa has a history of back issues, but one source insisted Correa does not have a back problem. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of a disagreement on that point.
