After cancellations, the Dallas Symphony finds a new Olga for Tchaikovsky's 'Eugene Onegin' — and some dancers, too.
American mezzo-soprano Melody Wilson was in Vienna when she got the call from her agent., after mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun dropped out for personal reasons. The concerts were set to start in less than a week.
Wilson previously sang the role of Olga, one of two sisters around whom the opera pivots, in the Seattle Opera’s production of“I did most of my revisiting of the score on the London to Philadelphia flight because I had no time before then,” said Wilson, who lives in Delaware and Vienna. She spoke from her dressing room in the Meyerson Symphony Center, where she was practicing the Russian text.
