In glare of accusations against Josh Primo, Gregg Popovich defends Spurs

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich looks on during the first half of an NBA preseason basketball game against the Utah Jazz, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, in Salt Lake City. SAN ANTONIO – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich on Friday rigorously defended the way the organization has handled accusations made by a former team psychologist that former player Josh Primo exposed himself to her numerous times during private sessions.

Her lawsuit, filed in state district court, accuses Primo and the Spurs of gross negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages. Meeting with reporters before Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Popovich was asked if he knew as early as June about the accusations Cauthen had made to other team executives about Primo. According to the lawsuit, Spurs deputy general counsel Brandon James and team executive Kara Allen informed Cauthen in June that Popovich was aware of her complaint and accusations and that he “wanted to do right by her.

Popovich was referring to a statement issued by Spurs chief executive officer R.C. Buford after Thursday’s news conference.
