'Age is something that comes to all of us,' state Sen. Samuel Thompson said in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday as he faces a primary challenge.
, Thompson said being challenged in a primary “doesn’t disturb me at all.”
Thompson — whose district includes parts of Burlington, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties — did not mention anyone by name but was apparently referring toin his area believe he should retire because of his age. Should he win another term, Thompson would be 92 by the end of it. Thompson, an Army veteran and former research chemist, also said he is hurt no one has come to his defense — and asked fellow senators to voice their support.
