Doctrine of sovereign immunity expected to protect China from being sued over Covid-19 in US federal court

“The Chinese government lied to the world about the danger and contagious nature of Covid-19, silenced whistleblowers, and did little to stop the spread of the disease," Schmitt, a Republican, said in a statement.The lawsuit also accuses the Chinese government of making the pandemic worse by "hoarding" masks and other personal protective equipment.
International law experts said that efforts to hold China liable for the coronavirus in US courts will likely fail. "We are seeing a lot of people on the political right focus on the China issue to cover up for the US government's own errors," Ginsburg said.
