The Sainsbury's junction in Mansfield has been described as a 'no-go' area by some businesses
Plans to improve a notorious junction outside a Sainsbury's supermarket in a Nottinghamshire town are moving closer as detailed plans are drawn up. It was announced earlier in the year that the Government was giving £2 million of levelling up funding for upgrades to be made to the junction on Nottingham Road, Mansfield.
The route regularly becomes congested, particularly at weekends, and businesses in the area have described the junction as a "no-go" area at times. Nottinghamshire County Council now says the £2 million has officially been transferred and that it has discussed the plans with affected landowners. Ben Bradley MP, Nottinghamshire County Council's leader, said: "An upgrade to the Sainsbury's junction is a priority and is something I know residents and businesses are very keen to see. I've been working to secure the funding for this for many years, so I'm delighted things are now moving to the next stage so we can make these planned junction improvements a reality.
The council says more updates on the scheme will be provided in the coming months. The investment formed part of a broader £20 million package for Mansfield, with other plans including a £3.2 million youth centre.
