Large ponds can cool cities, but small ones can make temperatures and pollution worse, finds study UniOfBath

3.3. Limitations and Recommendations for Future Work

A limitation of this study is the assumption of neutral atmospheric conditions, which can be representative of a nighttime situation but not typical of other instances during the day []. Future research is needed to examine the impact of atmospheric stability on blue space effects at different parts of the day. Radiation and the resulting varying surface temperatures of buildings, ground and water surfaces were also ignored.

The simulations have been set up to approximate a range of possible situations over a diurnal cycle or across different seasons whereby a water body warms/cools at a different rate than the land surface and ambient air, creating a temperature difference.
