Ted Lasso is an 11-time Emmy-winning show.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Hijack starring Idris Elba has followed Ted Lasso by scoring a major milestone for Apple TV+. The streaming show, which also stars Neil Maskell, Eve Myles, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Archie Panjabi, Ben Miles, and Kate Phillips, ran from June 28 through August 2. The show's seven episodes follow a seven-hour flight to London from Dubai where business negotiator Sam Nelson must harness his skills to stop a hijacking.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Nielsen streaming ratings are in for the week of July 31 through August 6. With 357 million minutes viewed, Hijack season 1 ranked in the Top 10 shows of the week. This marks only the second time that an Apple TV+ original series has graced the list after their smash hit Ted Lasso.
When Will Apple TV+ Score Another Major Hit? Apple TV+ has made a habit of bubbling under the charts, largely unable to compete with huge shows from competitors like Netflix and Prime Video. However, they have scored a variety of buzzy shows despite those titles not appearing in the Top 10.
The upcoming title that seems to have the biggest chance of following Hijack onto the chart is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which premieres later this year. The show hails from the MonsterVerse franchise, which also includes blockbuster movies like 2014's Godzilla and 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong. The Monarch cast has also drawn attention for having father and son Kurt and Wyatt Russell play the same character in two different timelines that are decades apart.
