Henderson will miss the URC end of season run in for the province, including Saturday's vital clash with Leinster
Ulster skipper, Iain Henderson, will not be part of Ireland's summer tour of South Africa after undergoing toe surgery. The end of season URC run-in for the province, including Saturday's crucial Kingspan Stadium clash with Leinster, will also take place without him as he went under the knife on Monday.
Ulster has confirmed that Henderson will require three months of rehab to recover, reports the Irish Mirror. This news is a setback for new head coach Richie Murphy and Ireland boss Andy Farrell, who would prefer to have the strongest possible squad available for the two-Test tour against the current world champions.
However, Henderson, who was a starter in the World Cup quarter-final against New Zealand last October, found himself lower down the second row pecking order in the Six Nations, with Joe McCarthy making an impact as a starter. At least Farrell will be pleased with the news that Leinster lock James Ryan has recovered from bicep surgery and is available to the province again.
The province also have doubts over Tom O'Toole and Sean Reffell for Saturday as they come into the clash on the back of three URC victories in a row.
