"I might've been born with this pain embedded inside me, wrapped up tight, just waiting for the right moment to arise. Apparently, the right moment was when I finally came to peace with my body." I can't deal with the idea that my body is the source of all this misery, so I no longer look at it as a part of me. It's just where I live — except this isn't my house. It's a four-floor walk-up in a pre-war apartment building where the plumbing's abysmal, the appliances are rusted over, and the loud neighbors are always shouting through the paper-thin walls. I like to think this is a temporary rental situation, but I might never be able to afford to move out.
