“She had the ability to make people feel like they are the only person in the room and it’s a great skill to be able to do that.” Photographer Jonathan Brady on taking photos of the Queen and having a unique ringside seat to her reign.

Mr Brady, who has since been nominated for Royal Photographer of the Year, said he had “absolutely no idea” that his image would resonate with so many people. It wasn’t until he walked out of the castle gates that he realised the picture had gone viral.: “It’s a level of surreality that you just can’t really envisage until it happens to you.
He said: “The year before I had this very well-used photo of her in a very very sad moment and then following, her when she was having what appears to be an extremely joyous moment.” Being there to capture the Queen at these events, Mr Brady got a sense of how she acted with new people and was so quick to put people at ease.
In 2016, Mr Brady found himself the subject of the Queen’s casual conversation style when he was asked to take a picture of her receiving a Governor General of a Commonwealth Caribbean Island in the private wing of Windsor Castle.
