A Nottinghamshire teen was told by a friend that she had cancer because she 'had eaten Nutella'. Sophie Angell from Southwell, Nottinghamshire, who was diagnosed with leukaemia at just 13, has revealed some of the bizarre and insensitive things people said to her after she shared her condition.
The Teenage Cancer Trust is currently running a ‘what not to say’ campaign, with young cancer patients encouraging people to take a moment to think before they speak to avoid unnecessary upset. Sophie added: It’s important to remember that we are still the same person. Same likes and dislikes. Talk to the person about the normal stuff! An invite goes a long way, it reminds your friend that they are still involved and thought about, even if they are too unwell to come.
