I used an air fryer for a cheap healthy meal and now I am fully converted
Air fryers are all the craze, everyone either has one, wants one or maybe they are too 'proud' to buy one. I was in the last category for a while until I received one as a housewarming present, I love to cook, I'm a trained chef and the idea of an air fryer was a bit "gimmicky" when I first learned about them.
The idea of an air fryer, if you don't know, is it's meant to be a healthier and quicker alternative to frying foods normally, however, their uses go way beyond fried goods. You can use them to cook 'almost' anything in theory. I wanted to prove that you can make a cheap, healthy meal in an air fryer whilst mildly pushing the boundaries of what it could be used for. Kitchen appliances can often be one-trick wonders but you really can create good, home-cooked food all in this singular machine.
The preparation is simple, the items cooked in the air fryer will be some turmeric flatbreads that you can cut into your own homemade tortillas or use as a form of pitta, chicken wings and peppers.First thing you will want to do is prep the wings, you can skip this step but if your air fryer is small like mine, I like to break the wings down so they cook more evenly. This is done simply by unfolding them and then cutting through the tendon where they join, leaving you with two wings essentially.
In a bowl get 200g of flour, add in some cracked black pepper, a pinch of salt and turmeric - this gives the yellow colour and brings a bit of earthiness. Add a splash of water little by little until it forms a slightly sticky dough, roll them out and keep to one side making sure they are floured so they don't stick.
