Ex-Antioch officer charged with assaulting man during traffic stop
ANTIOCH — In the latest scandal to engulf the city’s beleaguered police department, a former Antioch officer has been charged with assaulting a handcuffed man during a July 2022 traffic stop, court records show.
Video of the incident, released Wednesday in response to a request from this news organization and other media outlets, shows Nutt and Evans knock down the man, who is Black, after he told the officers he was having a panic attack. He then agrees to get into the car.“Stand up and get in the f—ing car, or I’ma you down again,” Nutt can be heard telling the man. “The way I took you down now, I will take you down again, and harder. Stand up and get in the f—ing car.
The Chaplin & Hill report says within 19 seconds, Nutt kicked the man three times, punched him four times and also hit him with multiple knee strikes. “The Antioch Police Department is committed to accountability and full transparency – my hope is our community will see the actions of our personnel to investigate and bring this matter to my attention as an expression of their commitment to accountability and the core tenants of their oath,” Ford said.
