SAN JOSE – A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputy, according to authorities.
The incident unfolded around 8 a.m. Saturday, when a deputy stopped a driver near Parkmoor and Rutland avenues in San Jose, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The driver, later identified as Emmanuel Diaz Ramos, reportedly ran from the deputy. After a short foot chase, Ramos brandished a gun and told the deputy “I’m going to shoot you,” according to authorities. The men struggled over the firearm, and the deputy ultimately gained control of it. Ramos then ran back to his car and sped away.The sheriff’s office said an investigation revealed Ramos was a convicted felon and driving a stolen car.
On Monday, detectives tracked Ramos to the Pruneyard Shopping Center in Campbell. He was arrested and booked into the Main Jail in San Jose on charges of attempted murder on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, vehicle theft, resisting arrest, criminal threats and felon in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition.
