This last week of August is like no other in Westwood as UCLA students move out of campus-adjacent apartments, creating mountains of curbside debris.
UCLA Chancellor Gene Block will step down from the helm of the nation’s top-ranked public university after steering the Westwood campus through a financial crisis and global pandemic and boosting enrollment, diversity, philanthropy and research funding.USC Housing also provides furnished dorms and apartments and has sustainability efforts in place for its university-affiliated housing, including teaming up with Goodwill Southern California to place donation bins around campus.
“The reality is a lot of people are lazy and it’s easier to throw it on the curb,” she said. “Especially if you don’t have a car, it doesn’t feel like there’s much you can do other than leave it on the curb.” Tim Van Hoomissen, 23, who just graduated from UCLA, walks past discarded furniture outside a private apartment building on Glenrock Avenue near the campus.
