Campbell Hatton, son of boxing legend Ricky Hatton, is preparing for a Central Area title fight on Saturday
The 23-year-old has certainly been placed under more scrutiny than most 14-0 boxers at the start of their career. There was an inevitable level of expectation when Campbell began to follow in the footsteps of his father, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton. Being the son of a beloved world champion would have been enough to dissuade many young prospects from pursuing a career in the ring.
“I struggled with it earlier. We knew there was going to be pressure and it was going to be a big deal but I don’t think we anticipated how big it was going to be,” Hatton told MEN Sport. “I think as a team we’ve all learned. It was affecting my early performances and it was a little bit too much, too soon.
“If you were to compare my fights now to how I boxed in my debut, I’m a totally different fighter. I’ve come on massively and I just know how to deal with it. I also think there’s less pressure because people are more used to seeing me.” “I think early on people were expecting me to be like my Dad was when he finished,” Hatton admitted. “To carry on where he left off. They forget the years and years of training and fighting that got him there.
