The category five tropical storm could cause life-threatening flooding, the National Hurricane Centre has warned
The storm made landfall near the tourist destination of Acapulco after midnight on Wednesday, the US National Hurricane Centre said.
“A potentially catastrophic storm surge is expected to produce life-threatening coastal flooding near and to the east of where the centre makes landfall,” the NHC said.Soldiers chat as they keep watch at a beach as Hurricane Otis barrels towards Acapulco, Mexico, Otis is expected to produce up to 20 inches of rainfall on Friday across Guerrero and in areas of the neighbouring Oaxaca state.
He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Go to shelters, stay in safe places away from rivers, streams, ravines and be alert, without being overconfident.”Ahead of the hurricane’s arrival, Guerrero’s authorities have been preparing emergency shelters.
