A symbiotic relationship has formed between elite Cowboys pass rushers Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.

Just look at one of the first plays from the Cowboys’ win over the Jets last week. Lawrence shed a block from a tight end to make a tackle for a 4-yard loss.On a potential touchdown pass from Jets’ quarterback Zach Wilson to receiver Garrett Wilson, Lawrence disrupted the play by reaching out and tipping Wilson’s hand as he threw the ball.

“DeMarcus just helps me with the mindset, where to go,” Parsons said. “He’s a big one about the mindset of how we’re going to hunt, how we’re going to dominate. And definitely, especially in the run game where he’s the most dominant, I learn from him and how he approaches it and what he’s looking at in his keys. He’s helped me get better against the run.”, the largest contract for a defensive player in franchise history. Last year, Lawrence received a three-year extension worth $40 million.

During his time with the Cowboys, Lawrence has gone from second-round pick with expectations of becoming an elite pass rusher to achieving that status. He’s now at a stage as an eight-year veteran in which players look up to him, and he also is watching a younger player take over the lead pass-rushing role.

The attention Parsons draws opens things up for Lawrence, much like it was when he broke into the league and was the man commanding double-teams. “I feel like I handled it well,” Lawrence said. “Also, being able to take a step back and the role changed a little bit. Now they’re looking at me more so as a leader instead of that go-getter. But it’s still in my heart, definitely, to continue to go get it and make sure I can keep up with the young bucks, and [we’re] going to continue to grind.”
