Uber's CEO says business has started to rebound, with rides bookings now down 70% from last year — compared to 80% in April. But some pre-pandemic staples, like trips to the airport, are taking longer to recover.

Commuters are the first people returning to Uber as businesses reopen, Andrew Macdonald, senior vice president of mobility and business operations, told NPR in an interview. "People are still adapting to what 'social' means," Macdonald said. In Australia,"instead of [on] Saturday night, going to a bar or restaurant, we're seeing a lot more people using it to go to a friend's house for dinner or for drinks."
