Today, the public is invited to watch five turtles finally go back home.
The sea turtle's nesting season starts April 1 and ends in mid-July. If people see a sea turtle on the beach, Marshall urges them to call 1-866-TURTLE-5 for a response team to arrive.$20 million Upper Texas Coast Sea Turtle Hospital and Educational Outreach Center
to finalize. The facility will allow the researchers to be able to house non-releasable turtles and put them on display. Marshall described the new facility as,"the Smithsonian meets the Monterey Aquarium." The new enter will be approximately 23,500 sq. ft with two hospital wards, a veterinary clinic, overnight facilities for caretakers, resident turtle tanks, an auditorium-presentation room, educational outreach exhibits and a gift shop.
The goal of the new center will be to attract tourists and generate revenue to support the hospital and sea turtle conservation programs.
