Use telemedicine to help determine the “urgency of care” and whether the patient should go to the emergency room, come in-person or be seen virtually, says Dr. Mark Briesacher, senior vice president and chief physician executive at Intermountain Healthcare. The health system went from conducting 7,500 video visits in March to about 64,000 telehealth visits in April and 58,000 in May.
Doctors at Intermountain Healthcare are giving a new meaning to bedside manner, as they are now examining some patients in their cars. It’s one of many changes the health system is making to meet patient needs while minimizing exposure risk. Many visits are happening virtually, but a provider might still want to get a quick in-person look at an issue like a swollen gland or a lump.
