Rice’s latest, and best, performance vaulted him into the top spot. In a 34-27 loss at Maryland, Rice had a career-high in both receptions and receiving yards . He was targeted 20 times — more than a third of quarterback Tanner Mordecai’s pass attempts. ”You guys saw it: Every time we threw it to him he either caught it or got a [pass interference],” SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee said. “So we’re not going to apologize for that.
