All the while, Beane sprinted into action, quickly getting down to the tunnel and locker room area to handle all the logistics no one wants to think about during a life-changing event. Beane helped ensure Hamlin’s loved ones at Paycor Stadium were with him in the ambulance. Then both he and McDermott had to figure out what to do with the game at hand, even though it was the last of their concerns.“I really feel like I did what anybody else would have done,” McDermott said Thursday.
“In that moment of decision making in real time and balancing what was the best thing to do, I don’t think anything prepared Sean,” Olsen said. “I just think a lifetime of being who he is.” McDermott’s former offensive coordinator in Buffalo, Brian Daboll, is often referred to as a player’s coach in his own right. Even he was taken aback by what transpired Monday night.
