Families have faced a 'triple blow' over the past two years, experts have said
Households have seen their mortgage costs, food spending and tax payments dramatically outstrip increases to their wages over the past two years.
The amount of tax the earner will have paid will have increased from £6,255 to £6,999 as a result of their wage increase, coupled with the fact that tax bands have been frozen over the past two years. And those who have not experienced pay rises of 10 per cent overall throughout the past two years will also find themselves even more short.
“The heavy shadow of the cost-of-living crisis is still hovering over many families, with key costs far outstripping wage inflation. Mortgage and food costs have soared over the last two years, leaving many families struggling to make ends meet.” What happens with inflation will impact what happens to interest rates and in turn will determine what the future course of mortgage rates will be.
