At $2.8 billion, Prosper is in big-district bond country. Austin ISD came in at $2.4 billion in 2022, and Houston ISD pushed a $1.9 billion bond in 2012.Other large bond elections coming this year are: Lewisville ISD ; Conroe ISD , and Midland ISD .
The district says that built into that $94 million is 15% for inflation and an anticipated 30% increase in construction costs, both of which have gone up post-pandemic. District spokeswoman Trotter says the $2.8 billion will not lead to a new tax increase because the district is already at maximum level for outstanding debt. District figures show that Prosper ISD owes $1.6 billion in debt from the issuance of previous bonds.
Of course, stadium mania in Texas is over the top. A $100 million stadium should come as a shock only to those who haven’t been paying attention. It’s as Texas as Dr Pepper and the Alamo.
